Profit
Profit per channel
Profit per channel is Revenue − Fees − Ad spend for the customers each channel, source, medium and campaign brought, in the same period.
The Profit page has one row per channel, source, medium and campaign: what the customers it brought paid you, what it cost, and the difference. Profit per channel is on the Growth and Scale plans.
The formula
Profit = Net revenue − Ad spend = Revenue − Fees − Ad spend- Revenue: charges − refunds − chargebacks, before processor fees, for payments attributed to the key and paid in the period.
- Fees: processor and merchant-of-record fees on those charges, minus fees returned on refunds. Estimated for providers that do not report fees; see Refunds, fees and currencies.
- Net revenue: Revenue − Fees.
- Ad spend: ad spend rows with the same key for the range, prorated by day. See Add ad spend.
The key is the combination of channel, source, medium and campaign from the customer's first touch; see How payments are attributed. Revenue counts payments made in the period by any customer the key ever brought, so a subscription bought last year keeps adding to its channel every month. All amounts are USD at the payment date's ECB rate, and only payments with status succeeded count.
Columns
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Customers | Distinct customers with a first succeeded charge in the range (new customers) |
| Revenue | Charges − refunds − chargebacks, before processor fees |
| Fees | Processor and merchant-of-record fees, minus fees returned on refunds |
| Net revenue | Revenue − Fees |
| Ad spend | Spend for the key in the range, prorated by day |
| Profit | Revenue − Fees − Ad spend |
| CAC, ROAS, Payback | See CAC, ROAS and payback |
Keys with spend and no revenue appear with zero revenue and negative profit, so a campaign that brought nobody is never hidden. Where Revenue and Profit appear side by side, the difference is always Fees + Ad spend.
A worked example
$2,407 revenue − $152 fees − $1,518 ad spend = $737 profitGoogle Ads · brand_search, September
revenue 2,407.00
fees −152.00
net revenue 2,255.00
ad spend −1,518.00
profit 737.00What profit does not include
Profit per channel subtracts ad spend and payment fees only. Salaries, tools, hosting and content costs are not in ProductLense, so a positive organic search row means organic search paid for its own fees, not that it was free to produce.
